How to Create, Schedule, and Manage Deals and Promo Codes in Weedmaps Admin

A comprehensive guide to configuring, scheduling, and optimizing WM Deals and Promo Codes in Weedmaps Admin to maximize menu visibility, drive online/in-person traffic, and boost redemptions.

Written by Weedmaps Onboarding

Overview

WM Deals enable dispensaries and delivery services to promote online and in-person discounts directly to cannabis consumers on Weedmaps. Incorporating deals into your marketing strategy helps attract first-time shoppers, increase average order value, and retain repeat customers.

Core Distinctions & Deal Types

Online Deals vs. In-Person Deals

  • Online Deals
Linked directly to a promo code. Customers apply the offer to their online cart and redeem savings at checkout.

    • Note: Online Ordering must be enabled on your listing.

  • In-Person Deals
Not linked to a promo code. Customers receive an emailed voucher to present in-store or to a delivery driver. Discounted prices do not reflect on the online menu.

Deal Cards vs. Promo Codes

  • Deal Cards
Visual promotional cards that display above your menu on your listing page.

  • Promo Codes
Discount triggers applied at checkout. Standalone promo codes (unlinked to a Deal Card) do not appear on your listing, but automatically pop up under the checkout order summary when a customer's cart qualifies.

Listing Eligibility

  • Retailers & Deliveries
Can create and feature deals directly on their listing pages.

  • Brands
Cannot create or schedule deals directly on their listing, but retailer deals featuring linked brand products automatically display on the official Brand listing.

Standard vs. Premium Deals

Retailers can run both Standard and Premium Deals across their listings. The primary difference lies in placement and platform exposure:

How to Create a Deal in Weedmaps Admin

Step 1: Access the Deals Dashboard

  1. Log in to Weedmaps.com on a desktop browser.

  2. Click your account icon in the top-right corner and select Manage my business.

  3. From the left navigation menu, select Deals > Overview.

Step 2: Choose Redemption Type & Listings

  1. Click + Promotion in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Create a deal card.

  3. Choose redemption type: Apply Deal Online or Present Deal In Person.

  4. Click + Listings to select single or multiple listings.

Step 3: Configure Details & Creative Specs

  • Promo Code (Online Deals Only)
Enter a new promo code (e.g., FLOWER30) or pick an existing code from the dropdown. (Applying an existing code automatically imports all pre-set requirements).

  • Title (Max 32 Characters)
Keep titles concise and highlight specific savings (e.g., "20% OFF EDIBLES").

  • Description (Max 500 Characters)
Detail discount rules, restrictions, and a clear call-to-action.

  • Deal Image Best Practices:

    • Do: Upload high-resolution imagery with strong color contrast, bold text, and the promo code as the call-to-action.

    • Don't: Upload "flyer-style" graphics crammed with dense text — mobile users cannot zoom in on deal cards.

Step 4: Set Discount Rules & Review

  1. For Online Deals, select the Discount Type (e.g., Amount Off Order, Buy X Get Y, Bundle) then set the Requirements.

  2. For In Person Deals, select what the Discount Applies To.

  3. Confirm advertising compliance with local state regulations.

  4. Click Proceed to final review, verify all settings, and select Confirm and schedule.

Scheduling Your Deals

Access the scheduler via the final step of deal creation or by selecting Deals > Deals Schedule.

  1. Select & Drag
Find your saved deal in the left-hand library, then drag and drop it into an open calendar slot.

  2. Set Date Range
Define the active start and end dates.

  3. Set Cadence
Select Every day or Select days (e.g., running offers exclusively on weekends).

  4. Save
Press Next, review details and click Save.

Creating & Managing Promo Codes

Navigate to Deals > Promo Codes to build or modify discount codes.

  • Creating Promo Codes
Click + Promotion > Create a promo code. Add dollar minimum spend thresholds to increase order value, and set usage limits (total redemptions or one use per customer) to prevent over-redemption.

  • Important Lock & Edit Warnings:

    • Locked Discount Types
Once created, promotion types (% Off, $ Off, BOGO) are permanently locked and cannot be edited.

    • Editing Code Warning
Modifying an active promo code (even by one letter) generates a brand-new code and resets all historical deal analytics and SEO performance. Creating a new deal from scratch is recommended over editing.

    • Code Uniqueness
Promo codes cannot be duplicated across deals.

  • Archiving Promo Codes
Select the code, click the three dots, and choose Archive.

    • Warning: Archiving a promo code automatically deletes all active and scheduled deals linked to that code.

Best Practices for Maximum Sales Conversion

  • POS Integration
Sync live menus directly with your Point-of-Sale (POS) system so menu availability matches active promotions.

  • Tiered Spend Incentives
Utilize tiered discounts (e.g., "Spend $80 get 10% off; Spend $150 get 20% off") to lift average basket size.

  • Clear Terms
Include explicit purchase minimums and brand restrictions to eliminate friction at checkout.
