Overview
Weedmaps product lifecycle statuses allow brands to manage catalog items from development through retirement without losing platform visibility. Instead of unpublishing or removing items that are no longer in production, keeping products published under the Discontinued status preserves platform visibility, maintains brand product links across dispensary menus carrying remaining inventory, and delivers a seamless shopping experience for consumers.
Product Lifecycle Status Definitions
Draft: The product card is created but remains unpublished and hidden from consumers. Use this status to prepare images, descriptions, and cannabinoid details prior to an official product launch.
Active: The product is fully published, discoverable in search, visible on your public brand profile, and actively available for retailers to link to their menus.
Discontinued: The product is no longer actively manufactured, but remains published on Weedmaps. Marking a product as discontinued preserves catalog visibility and ensures dispensary partners carrying remaining stock can maintain active brand links without interrupting the consumer shopping experience.

Best Practices for Product Lifecycle Management
Stage Launches in Draft Status
Prepare new product cards in Draft mode ahead of launch dates to finalize assets and potency specs before making them public.
Transition Out-of-Production Items to Discontinued
Switch retired SKUs to Discontinued as soon as production halts. This signals to retail partners that new supply is ending while keeping live dispensary menus enriched with brand data until inventory clears.
