What's Trust & Safety?

Best practices and tips for a successful relationship.

Trust & Safety focuses on building a culture of care, protection, and positive experiences for all parties interacting with Weedmaps by ensuring the integrity of services.

We strive to be leaders in managing user and client safety and maintaining a consistent and quality experience on Weedmaps' platform.

Details page

Building a culture of trust, care, and integrity can start with you. A well-written Details page promotes your values and customer relationships.

The Details page goes beyond the standard "About Us" page. It helps to share how your company started, what differentiates your brand, and why you continue serving customers.

Here are some key points why filling out the Details page is essential:

  1. First impressions: A first impression can set the tone for your business and show that you're professional and prepared.

  2. Culture and values: Share your mission statement. What does your company value, and how do you apply those values and culture to your business?

  3. Services: What differentiates your brand? Describe your services to users, and focus on aspects that they would find appealing.

  4. Awards, recognitions, and community involvement: Boost your brand/company's reputation and establish credibility, quality, and consistency by highlighting your achievements or participation in the community.

Weedmaps Best Practices

Weedmaps Best Practices highlights common violations and briefly explains what clients can expect when flagged for violating Weedmaps Content Guidelines for Businesses, Commercial Terms, or Terms of Use.

Common Violations

Best practices and what to expect.

Poaching

Communication with the customer should only pertain to their order placed through Weedmaps. Call-to-actions that influence the customer to order through a third party violate the WM Orders Supplemental Terms and Weedmaps Terms of Use.

Best practices

  • Personal business information, such as your website and phone number, is only in the designated areas of your listing.

  • Communication with the customer should only pertain to their order placed through Weedmaps.

What to expect

Repeated offenses may result in platform suspension.

Misuse of avatar, logo(s), and featured deals

Advertisements for deals and discounts should only be in the designated areas of your listing. Listing avatars, logos, and images in the media tab that advertise deals, promotions, or discounts will be removed.

Menu items must contain a product and shouldn’t be used to advertise a deal, promotion, or discount. Such misuse violates the Weedmaps Commercial Terms.

Best practices

  • Ensure that advertisements and deals are only in the designated areas of your listing.

  • Featured Products are for highlighting selected menu items and not to display deals, ads, or informational content.

What to expect

Repeated offenses may result in platform suspension.

Non-compliant items

Items advertised on Weedmaps must comply with state/provincial and local rules and regulations or be subject to suspension or removal from the platform.

Please check your local government website for your jurisdiction's rules and regulations. Non-compliant items violate the Weedmaps Terms of Use.

Best practices

What to expect

Repeated offenses may result in platform suspension.

Intellectual property

Don't use content owned by other third-party websites, users, or businesses. Misuse of intellectual property violates the Weedmaps Terms of Use.

It's Weedmaps' policy, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, to disable, eliminate access to, or terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe or are repeatedly reported for being charged with infringing the intellectual property rights of others.

Best practices

What to expect

Repeated offenses may result in platform suspension.

Review policy

The Weedmaps platform allows users to post content and contribute reviews of their personal experiences with products, brands, and retailers. Our community values this content because they're a reliable source of information about the cannabis business and its products.

To help the community, we're providing guidelines on posting helpful and informative content. Please see the User Content Guidelines for more information.

Best practices

  • Don't encourage clients to leave reviews while they're in the store:

    • This could confuse our internal tooling to think that you or your employees are leaving false reviews for your business.

  • You may request a customer/user to leave a review for your listing, but you shouldn’t specifically ask for a positive review.

  • We recommend posting an Official Response to clarify any negative reviews.

What to expect

Repeated offenses may result in platform suspension.

Informational vs. Poaching

Please note websites, emails, social media, and phone numbers are meant to be in the designated spaces provided – not on the details page.

Informational content is allowed but must pertain to tax information, return/exchange policies, redeeming deals, applying discounts, first-time patient information, and accepted payment methods.
